BMW X5 M Engine and Performance

Now this being an M car, let’s start with what’s at the heart of this SUV. The BMW X5 M is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that produces a mind boggling 625hp and 750Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and power is sent to all four wheels via BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel drive system. BMW claims this SUV can sprint from naught to 100kph in just 3.8 seconds. These numbers are right up there with the likes of the Audi RS Q8, the Lamborghini Urus and the Porsche Cayenne. Top-speed is however electronically limited to 250kph.

The credibility of the X5 M being an M car just does not lie under its hood. BMW has done some tampering elsewhere too. For instance, there are M-specific changes to the chassis, there’s new M-specific adaptive suspension with electronically controlled dampers and active roll stabilization system as well. Even the brakes have been upgraded with ‘M’ compound brakes. There are three driving modes to play with – Track, Sport and Road. Although we cannot think of anyone who would be taking a X5 M to the track. A couple of off-road modes would have been nicer. After all, its an SUV. Even the Lamborghini Urus has off-road modes.
